Ornaments

An ornament is a decoration used to embellish parts of a building or object. Its composition is quite simple, consisting of stems of greater or lesser complexity, coiled or forming geometrical shapes, or accentuated with stylized flora. Building ornaments can be carved from stone, wood or precious metals, formed with plaster or clay, or impressed onto a surface as applied ornament. In applied arts, the main material of the object, or a different one may be used. A wide range of decorative styles and motifs have been developed for architecture and the applied arts, including furniture, pottery and metalwork.
